MORTON full back Carlo Pignatiello insists he and his colleagues are well prepared for the threat they will face from Cove Rangers at Cappielow today.

Ton meet the Championship new boys in their first home game of the season but know they are in for a tough test after the League 1 champions picked up where they left off - by claiming top spot in the second tier after the first round of fixtures last weekend.

Rangers have a squad packed with experienced players who have starred in the top flight and they got off to the perfect start by defeating Raith Rovers 2-0.

Pignatiello played against them last term while on loan at Dumbarton and says he is under no illusions about how tough a task Ton face against Jim McIntyre’s side

He told the Tele: "Cove have got a really good team together.

"I know all about them as I played against them last season.

"They have got a lot of boys who have been there for a few years and know each other well.

"That helps in football, especially when you have been winning too, playing with each other regularly is a big thing.

"They'll be a good team, it will not be an easy game. I think Cove are going to be a tough test for everybody this season to be honest.

"We know that we need to be switched on and 100 per cent focused to try and get anything from today."

The full back insists that no one in the Ton camp will be taking McIntyre's side lightly, despite them being a newly promoted outfit.

He said: "They got a good 2-0 win against Raith, so they’ll be full of confidence.

"The manager and the boys are well aware that we are up against a very good team who will be coming here to win."

Defender Pignatiello says he and his team-mates want to tighten things up on Saturday after conceding cheap goals on successive Saturdays against Bonnyrigg and then Hamilton.

The 22-year-old believes they need to improve on set plays in particular if they are to have any chance of achieving success.

He said: "Set pieces in this league are a big thing and conceding two out of two in consecutive weeks isn’t good enough.

"We definitely need to address that and work on it.

"If you keep conceding goals like that in this league, you’ll not win games.

"It is hard to points, it is a good division and there aren't any bad teams in it.

"Every point is a good one and hopefully we can get a positive result against Cove and push on from there."
