YOUNGSTER Lewis McGrattan is confident Morton can recover from their Stark's Park setback by stopping early pacesetters Dundee in their tracks.

The Ton suffered their first defeat of the league campaign at the hands of Raith Rovers and the midfielder has urged his team-mates not to dwell on Saturday's disappointment.

The academy graduate believes anything is possible at Cappielow and hopes they can make home advantage count against Gary Bowyer's men, who reached the Championship summit with a 4-2 win over Arbroath.

He told the Tele: "We can’t dwell on the Raith defeat. Games come thick and fast and we have got another massive one on Saturday at home.

"At Cappielow we would fancy our chances to go and pick up the points."

After playing from the start against Falkirk and Bonnyrigg Rose in the Premier Sports Cup group stage, McGrattan made his first league start of the campaign in Kirkcaldy.

Despite being on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat, he insists the experience will stand him in good stead as he looks to become a regular starter in Dougie Imrie's engine room this season.

He said: "I was happy with the start.

"I want to be playing games - but I was more disappointed that we lost instead. Hopefully I can build on it, though.

"It is hard to take for us, the boys put a lot into the game.

"I didn’t think there much in it between the two teams. We gave them Raith two chances and they took them.

"At 2-0 down it is hard but I thought after the goals we came into it again.

"We were just unfortunate not to take another chance at the end and get a draw."

The 21-year-old insists Morton could feel hard done by to leave Fife empty handed after coming close to breaking the deadlock in the first half, with chances falling to Robbie Muirhead and Jack Baird.

McGrattan believes they must find a cutting edge up front and learn from their defensive mistakes, which were pounced on by Liam Dick and Aidan Connolly in the second half.

He added: "A draw would have been fair enough.

"We had a few opportunities in the first half, and they took their chances when they got them, so it would have been fair.

"It was tight, nobody really had a cutting-edge chance, but then obviously we gifted them two, so it is disappointing that we did that after defending so well in the first half.

"It was disappointing to give them two chances so easily, we just need to learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again."
