DOUGIE Imrie believes Morton's goalless draw against Dundee was their best performance of the season so far - and insists his side should have taken all three points.

The Ton nullified the Dark Blues' attacking threat to secure their second clean sheet in a row at Cappielow and they could have broken the deadlock with chances falling to Jai Quitongo and Jaze Kabia.

Despite having to settle for a point against the Championship favourites, Imrie was pleased with his side's performance and hailed their reaction to their first league defeat of the season against Raith Rovers.

He told the Tele: "Clean sheets give you a platform to go win games, and again we have kept another one.

"The boys are still trying to gel together, there are a lot of new players who have come in over the summer, and a lot of boys have left, but I think that was probably our best 90 minutes this season.

"I was disappointed with individual mistakes which cost us points at Raith, but I fully expected the reaction I got.

"Since I have come to the club, any disappointment we have had the following week we genuinely have either gone out and got a good point or three.

"I am really pleased for the boys that they put in the effort to get the point, and I don’t think it would have been unjustified if we picked up all three."

While the Morton manager was delighted with the display, he admits they lacked a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch to punish Dundee.

Imrie said: "If we can find that spark at the top end of the pitch to start putting chances away, we’ll win games of football.

"But I am pleased with the way the boys performed, I thought to a man they were outstanding all over the park.

"That is the minimum that I expect every week. I know it is in there, they just need to believe in themselves.

"But if we could get that cutting edge at the top end of the pitch, we would give ourselves that bit of breathing space."

Imrie was full of praise for new signing Robbie Crawford after he was put straight into the starting 11 for his debut having joined up with his new team-mates two days prior.

He added: "Robbie is a quality player. That is why I wanted to bring him to the football club and I am glad I did.

"He brings a calmness, he is good on the ball, always tries to get the ball down and make a pass.

"But his intensity to go press and try and win the ball back for us was the most pleasing thing for me.

"I know he has probably not had a full pre-season being at different clubs, but I am just delighted to get him here and hopefully over the next week or so we’ll get him up to speed."
