ROBBIE Crawford says his Morton debut against Dundee proves he was right to choose a move to Cappielow over Dens Park.

The 28-year-old had been a free agent since early in the summer having left Ton's Championship rivals Partick Thistle.

The midfielder was on trial with the Dark Blues last week - but he knew Morton was the right club for him and says playing under Dougie Imrie was a big factor in his decision.

He told the Tele: "I went into Dundee last week and they wanted me to play a game, but I basically had to say to Dougie yes or no, he needed an answer.

"I just had to say to them 'look, I am not going to play in that game and I am just going to sign for Morton'.

"And I am glad I did because I enjoyed it on Saturday.

"I had offers throughout the summer, it was just trying to pick the right one.

"I probably knocked back five or six, but the manager here and everything sounded good, so I went with Morton.

"It has been a long time coming. I was buzzing and it was a decent game.

"Dougie is an ambitious manager and wants to take the club forward.

"He obviously did well when he came in last year, and now wants to continue that and I want to be a part of it."

Crawford almost got his Morton career off to a dream start when he was denied by a fine save from Dundee 'keeper Harrison Sharp early on.

The midfielder felt Ton were unlucky not to secure their second Championship victory of the campaign.

The former Ayr United man was delighted with his Cappielow debut and believes Morton can take confidence from giving the Championship favourites a difficult afternoon.

He said: "They’ll probably be favourites to go up, but I thought we more than matched them.

"If anything we had the more clear-cut chances to win, but it was a point against one of the league favourites, so we’ll take that and move on.

"I was surprised when the gaffer said to me on Friday that he was going to start me.

"But it was great as the best way to get fit is playing games.

"I thought my effort was in from the angle I was at, but the goalkeeper got fingertips to it so it wasn’t to be."

The midfielder says he always felt it was a matter of time before his future was settled having gone the full summer without a club.

But he is now relieved he can focus on playing again after making his move to Greenock.

Crawford said: "That is the first time it has really happened to me.

"I was always confident that I would get something because I had offers, but I suppose I wasn’t confident that I would get something that I really wanted.

"But in the end I did so I am glad."
