NEW Morton signing Liam Grimshaw has told of his relief after signing a short-term deal at Cappielow following a summer of uncertainty.

The former Motherwell man has agreed a deal until January, having been released by the Premiership side in July.

After being without a club for two months he is happy that his immediate future has now been settled and feels it will prove worth the wait.

The 27-year-old told the Tele: "I am really happy to join Morton, it has been a long year with what went on at Motherwell and hardly playing there for the past six months.

"I was obviously hoping to get a new club early on in the transfer window but had to wait until now to finally get something sorted out.

"It has been quite a testing time and I am glad to see the back of it."

Grimshaw has trained with the club for over a week and says he was grateful to have been given a chance by Ton boss Dougie Imrie to earn a move.

He said: "The manager got in touch with me and was keen to have me come and train, see where I was up to fitness-wise and see if it would be something that I would be interested in.

"He just said to me to enjoy it and I have - it seems like a good group of lads at Morton and I have settled in quite well.

"I am looking forward to now hopefully getting a few games under my belt in the coming weeks and seeing where it can lead to for us as a team."

Grimshaw, who can play in both midfield and defence, admits it has been a tough few months being without a club for the first time in his career.

He said: "It's the first time I have experienced it in my career and it is not nice.

"Like anyone else at the end of the day it is our job and if you are without a job and have no money coming in it is difficult.

"I knew I had to try and stay positive and I have kept myself as fit as possible - hopefully that will stand me in good stead for when I play."

The ex Manchester United youth player has found a few familiar faces in Greenock and says they have helped him settle in.

Grimshaw said: "I knew Robbie Crawford and Darragh O’Connor from Motherwell and Robbie was really positive about the club and manager when I asked him.

"It is always good when you have got people you know around, it helps you settle in quicker than it would do normally.

"But all the lads seem good to be fair and it is a very positive dressing room, I have really enjoyed it so far."

The Englishman could make his debut for his new side as they prepare to host Arbroath this weekend and says he is eager to get back playing and make an immediate impression.

He said: "It has been a while since I have actually played a part in a game because of how things ended at Motherwell and not playing much there.

"I have enjoyed training and now I am looking forward to getting back into games."
