MORTON defender Carlo Pignatiello is adamant he and his team-mates can still make the promotion play-offs but admits they must beat Hamilton tonight to do so.

The Ton full back made his first start in just over a month as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Ayr United at the weekend.

It leaves Morton with an uphill struggle to get back into the top four in time.

But the full back believes that there will be plenty of twists still to come between now and the end of the season.

He told the Tele: “We went to Ayr wanting to get the win and really give ourselves a chance. But I don’t think it’s completely done.

“But when you’re 1-0 up in a game and you don’t go on to win it then naturally it’s disappointing.

“It was a tough, fast paced game and even when we went down to ten men it became a bit like a basketball game as opposed to a football match.

“It was good to be back out there and playing, I’m just disappointed we couldn’t bring home the three points.

“Ayr are a very good side filled with very experienced bodies, they’ve been right up there throughout the season. So we knew it would be tough to go there and take anything away from the game.

“We’ve come away from the game disappointed. But we’ve got a massive game tonight to try and make things right.

“If we win tonight I really think we’ve got an outside chance of getting into those play-offs.

"A three point gap really wouldn't be a lot of ground to make up in football, especially in this league.

“Its a tough league, where its always hard to win games and put a run together - everybody beats everybody and they take points off of each other.

“Thats why we’ve got to focus on ourselves and don’t let anyone else have an outside influence.

“If we can try to pick up wins, and as many of them as we can get between now and the end of the season other teams are bound to drop points.

“It’s just about getting them now.”

The former Livingston man thinks that the play-off places might not be settled until the week of the season.

He said: “It’s important not to look at the league table, we’ve dropped to sixth but everything is still so so tight.

“Its been like that all season and it will probably go down to the final day.

“We’re just trying to keep going to the end and see where that takes us."
