MORTON skipper Grant Gillespie insists that goals continue to come from all over the park to help the Cappielow side’s last-gasp push for the play-offs.

The 31-year-old netted what was his tenth goal of the season from the base of Dougie Imrie’s midfield in Tuesday night's win over Hamilton Accies.

It was his second goal in three games and the fourth in succession scored by someone other than a Ton striker.

Gillespie intends to continue his scoring exploits in his most prolific season to date after going level with Robbie Muirhead in the charts.

He told the Tele: “I'm delighted to have hit that milestone of ten goals in a season.

“This is the first time I’ve hit double figures in a season, I don’t think I’ve scored any more than five, maybe barring one season at Queen’s Park.

“I’m on the penalties and that obviously helps, but you’ve still got to step up and take them.

I’ve scored seven of them and I’ve got three from open play so long may that continue.

“I hope that I can get a few more in the final four games and hopefully really make a difference - it’s important that we all chip in.

“We can’t just rely on big Robbie and George Oakley up top to get us the goals, we need them from all over the park.

“Geo obviously missed Tuesday through suspension but we all need to chip in with goals here and there and I feel that we’ve done that.

“I’m delighted to have contributed ten goals, so if I can add a couple more now then I’ll be delighted.”

The Ton skipper wants his side to build some momentum by making it back-to-back wins when they travel to Dundee this weekend.

He believes a statement victory at Dens Park against the league leaders could be crucial with only four games to play and Ton striving to make up a three-point gap between themselves and fourth place.

This weekend’s fixtures could be pivotal as rivals Partick and Ayr go head to head.

Gillespie said: “If we could go and get a win at Dundee on Saturday it would send out a statement that we’re right in the hunt for the play-offs.

“We’re in a good position, and maybe feel like we should be in a better one to be honest.

“Going back to the Arbroath game we should’ve got all three points, which would’ve been another two on the board, and that could’ve been huge for us.

“But look, if we can go up there and get a win, then it would put us right in the mix."
