MORTON boss Dougie Imrie didn’t mince his words as he vowed to set about a Dens Park inquest after his side surrendered a 3-1 lead against league leaders Dundee.

Although the Cappielow chief praised his side he also gave a candid assessment of where they went wrong.

The 39-year-old was keen to tell some home truths, insisting that some players aren’t of the level required.

He told the Tele: “I’m devastated, I don’t know what more I can say really. I thought for large parts of the game up until the 94th minute minute, we were superb.

“I thought we’d just done enough to win the game but then two moments of madness cost us.

“I can’t keep saying the same thing, it's the same people, the same people that keep costing us.

“That’s maybe my fault for putting them on the park, but going forward that certainly won’t be happening anymore.

“It’s my job to lead this club forward and as far as I can, but certain individuals are costing that and I need to do a job for the club and the boys.

“But there are certain individuals in that dressing room who are way short of what’s required to play at this level.

“In the main I thought we were different class, but fair play to Gary Bowyer and his team they fought right to the death.

“Yes they made changes and put more forward players on, but we’ve got to be better than that.

“But it’s not very often that I’ve been left to say that I’m feeling really deflated but you’ve been able to hear how I'm speaking after the game - I’m gutted.

“That could very well have been a massive three points for us again today but we’ve conceded late on yet again to drop another two points.

“But I’ve got to give credit to my players, I’m proud of the effort we put in.

“But if you don’t defend in a place like this then you’re never going to take anything from a place like this.”

Imrie believes that nerves got the better of his side as they allowed the hosts to dominate the closing stages.

He conceded that it is inevitable that his side will continue to concede goals should they defend like that going forward.

He added: “We all know the quality that Robbie Muirhead possesses, he scores another wonder strike, Jack Baird gets a very well worked goal.

“After that for the next five then minutes I just wanted us to calm down and control the game.

“But we just looked nervous which I don’t understand, we’ve nothing to be nervous about - just play the game.

“But like I say, if you can’t defend your box properly then you’re going to be punished like we were twice inside the last twenty minutes.”
