MORTON defender Jack Baird believes that his side have walked away with a point GAINED against Dundee despite throwing away a two goal lead.

The towering defender admits that he and his teammates were left annoyed at the manner of how they conceded after surrendering their 3-1 lead at Dens Park - but he admitted that he’d have taken a point before kick-off.

He believes that the game was summed up by the fact that five of the six goals were scored via set pieces.

He told the Tele: “Right after the game you’re obviously a bit annoyed because you’re winning 3-1 and you then let the lead slip. But after a bit of time to think about it, you probably see that it’s a decent point.

“If you got offered a point before you get on the bus up to Dens Park you’d happily take it but when you’re winning 3-1 you’re sitting thinking that it would be an unbelievable three points.

“Up until then we had done well against Dundee.

"I don’t know if you’d call them favourites but I'd say they’re most likely to go on and win the league now, with how they’re sitting.

“Right after the game we’re obviously not happy with how the game has transpired, all of us could do better in terms of the goals we conceded - but we’ll take the point and move on.

“In this league set pieces are huge, and I think five of the six scored on Saturday were from set pieces or second phases from a set piece.

"So I wouldn’t say that we felt as if we needed to sit back in the final 20-minutes or so.

“It’s not like they cut us open, or played through us. They’re a big physical team who are good at attacking set pieces, which I guess we could be tagged with too.

“They’re a big team, the two centre halves are huge as are their strikers too, so it’s just one of those games I think.

“I wouldn’t say we sat back. But we’re definitely annoyed at how we conceded the goals we did.”

Baird admits he is unsure whether the result will prove fatal for Ton's promotion play-off hopes.

But he has challenged his side to go and win their final two home games against Raith and Queen’s Park to give themselves the best chance of sneaking into the top four.

He said: “I don’t really know how this leaves us in terms of the season, it’s still really tight. We now need to go and take the initiative with the two home games we have coming up.

“We wanted to win away at Ayr and again against Dundee but we didn’t. It’s a good point in the end.

“We probably need to go and win the next couple of games if we want a chance of finishing in the play-offs, but it’s one of those ones where we’ve probably overachieved because we weren’t expecting to be here."
