MORTON defender Jack Baird says he’s found an unlikely home at Cappielow and admits he wouldn’t change it for the world as he enjoys the highest scoring season of his career.

The former St Mirren captain admits that crossing the Renfrewshire derby divide is something that never entered his head, but added that his admiration for the Cappielow side has always been there.

And he hopes that he can continue to hit the goal trail for Dougie Imrie’s men after nodding home his sixth of the season last Saturday.

He told the Tele: “To be fair, Morton have always been a club that I've admired.

“The three years that I was in the Championship with St Mirren, they were always really tough opponents.

"The year we just escaped relegation they were up in the play-offs and the manager at that time, Jim Duffy, was someone that I always wanted to work with, which I later did at Ayr.

“Morton have always been a club I have respected, even though at the time I was at St Mirren it was a derby.

“But if you’d have asked me when I was coming through the ranks at St Mirren that I’d be really loving life at Morton then it’s not something i’d have thought would be happening.

"But here we are, I am and it’s somewhere to call home and settle.

“This has been one of the best if not the best season of my career, certainly in a goalscoring sense.

"I’ve got nine goals in just under 60 league games across two spells, so there must be something in the water down here.

"It’s definitely been one of the more enjoyable seasons of my career.”
