MORTON manager Dougie Imrie has hailed the character of his side after they passed their test against title challenging Queen’s Park to take their play-off pursuit to the final day of the season.

Ton now sit two points off of Partick Thistle in third place and are one bhind fourth-placed Ayr thanks to their 2-1 victory over Owen Coyle’s men.

The Cappielow boss says his players deserve all the plaudits they get after the composure they showed after falling a goal behind on Saturday.

He told the Tele: "I'd like to think we deserved the victory. Queen's Park are the team that everyone's been giving plaudits for the way they've played all season, and we've beaten them three times.

"I thought the players were superb from start to finish, especially bouncing back from the dent we took in the first half.

"After the goal our reaction was superb and we controlled the game, we got back into the game with what I thought was a stonewall penalty but it could've been a lot more. We handled the occasion really well.

“I thought with the magnitude of the game and what was at stake, we handled things really well.

“I think my goalkeeper has had one save to make, the other goalkeeper has been called upon on numerous opportunities. I’ve got to give full credit to my players for that.

“I don’t think we were under any pressure over the course of the game, any pressure we were under was down to our own mistakes. But I thought for the full of the second half we controlled the game really well.

“Big George Oakley had opportunities, Jai Quitongo had opportunities and Robbie Crawford had other chances too. Calvin Miller had one too.

“I thought it was an accomplished performance against a team who are fighting at the top of the league and like I said before, it’s a team who are still to beat us.”

Imrie felt his side’s performance was night and day to their victory over Raith Rovers the week prior.

He said: "We knew the importance of beating Raith, it wasn't the prettiest but we did it. But the difference with the game on Saturday was night and day.

“Anybody saying that we’ve come away from the game not deserving what we got needs to go and watch the game again. I thought we were different class from start to finish.

"You've got four teams fighting for two play-off positions separated by two points. It's going to be exciting on Friday and I'm looking forward to it."
