MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says his team's points total this season shows the progress they have made and now he is urging them to sign off in style in their final league fixture.

The Greenock men have only lost two of their last 13 games but even if they manage to beat Cove on Friday night, they still need results elsewhere to go their way.

But the Ton boss believes that even if they don't make it they can take heart from the improvement they have shown over the last 12 months.

Imrie told the Tele: "It's great that we've been able to take it into the last day of the season, football has its ups and downs but we've still got it in our own hands to get there.

"We should've won more games than we have done but we're still in with a chance and that's all we can do at this point.

"If we want to go down the road of stats and things like that we've only lost two games in our last 13, we've had some fantastic runs of form this season and it's probably been the draws that have killed us. I don't think anyone has drawn as many games as we have.

"But it's been well documented that the last Morton team to finish in the play-offs amassed 52 points, and we're now on 54 with a game to go. That's where we're at, it's been a long time since the club amassed the amount of points that we have now.

"Even that's a positive, it shows a sign of progression which is something that I've kept harping on about. If we don't end up finishing in those play-off spaces then it's not been for the want for trying."

Imrie says his side have now developed the ruthless streak they need.

He said: "We've shown that we're now able to grind out results in the last few weeks. Against Raith we were poor and we've managed to keep a clean sheet, score a goal and see out the win and it's a hard skill to master.

"We've now scored 50 goals this season and that's one of many positives to take this season but it's not the main focus just now.

"Full focus is on Friday night and ensuring that we come away with all three points."
