MORTON winger Calvin Miller admits that his side’s final day heartbreak was the lowest that he’s ever felt in football.

Ton emerged through the Aberdeenshire fog to beat Cove Rangers 2-1 at the Balmoral Stadium but it was not enough to secure a play-off place thanks to Mark McKenzie’s late winner for Ayr United in Inverness.

Former Celtic kid Miller said he and his teammates were dejected after the full time whistle at being left with nothing.

He told the Tele: “We’re absolutely devastated. A few of the boys pointed out in the dressing room that we only finished a point off of second place, so in any other league in the world that’s title deciding.

"In that sense it’s heartbreaking, especially when you don’t even finish in the play-offs.

“The gaffer had told us that if we were to win our last three games then we’d give ourselves a chance of getting into those playoffs, and we have.

"We've given absolutely everything and we’ve still not made the cut, it’s horrible.

“It’s got to be one of my lowest points in football, honestly.

“We could hear the fans cheering on three separate occasions, so we thought we’d done it and then all we heard was silence and we didn’t know what was going on.

"Then they were cheering again so we were confused as to what was going on.

“At the end of the game, we obviously found out that it was all for nothing.

"Ayr obviously got their winner in the 88th minute, so that shows you how tight the league was as a whole.

"The lads gave everything and it’s just gutting to be honest.”

Miller also described the conditions experienced on Friday night as 'mental' as thick fog consumed the Balmoral Stadium to the point that he other side of the pitch was not visible.

He said: “Coming up on the team bus, we noticed that there was a lot of fog and it was getting steadily worse as time went on.

"We were all thinking that there was a good chance that the game was going to be off because of it.

“We got the first half done, which again wasn’t the easiest because visibility was so poor. Then the ref came into the dressing room at half time to tell us to hold back because he was inspecting the pitch again.

“We wanted to just get the game done with and get the win to see where things took us, but unfortunately it didn’t go the way we wanted to."
