MORTON striker Robbie Muirhead says that his 12-goal season is the best of his career to date after he picked up the top scorer gong at the club’s awards ceremony.

Muirhead was followed by skipper Grant Gillespie on 11 and Jack Baird on seven and the big forward reckons he could have had more over the course of the campaign.

But he revealed that his aim at the start of the season was to hit double figures for the first time in his career, after reaching nine in the previous two seasons - and he reckons that there are more goals to come.

He told the Tele: It’s the best season I’ve had in my career as a whole.

“I've been lucky enough to play nearly every league game and to have scored 12 goals is great.

“I was happy to get double figures in the league as that was my aim going into the season.

“I could have got more as well but that’s a positive knowing that I do have more goals in me.

“Obviously playing up front have helped massively in me getting goals this year, so long may it continue.”

The 27-year-old has been left bemused after the goal that clinched the award will never be seen by anyone ever again.

His 35-yard piledriver against Cove was lost in the fog which enveloped the game.

With visibility so bad, the club haven’t been able to release highlights showing the strike.

Muirhead admits he did not see the ball hitting the back of the net either.

He said: "I was just running into bodies and hit it.

“But I fell so I only saw the ball travel maybe five or six yards towards goal.

“I’m not sure if their keeper could see it or if it just moved a hell of a lot. But I'll take it because from what you could see I was miles out.”

Muirhead admits that he’s been left devastated after his side just missed out on the Premiership playoffs by a singular point.

He added: “It’s wild how tight it was this year.

"Next year we can only go again and see what happens."
