MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says he holds no grudges with Liam Grimshaw after last season's player of the year left but admits he is disappointed by Calvin Miller's exit.

The 28-year-old Englishman Grimshaw became a firm fans' favourite after his arrival at Cappielow last September.

He was offered a deal to stay at Cappielow but has moved on to Tannadice and Imrie says the move is fully merited.

He told the Tele: “I don’t have any qualms about Grimmy going elsewhere with a different offer other than the one we’ve gave him.

“He’s got a fantastic offer to go and play at another club with a package that we couldn’t match.

"I’ll never stand in anyone’s way of going and taking that opportunity, especially with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and things like that.

“Ever since Grimmy came to the club last summer, he’d been outstanding and if I could’ve had more of that from the other players then we’d be doing alright.

“His professionalism was outstanding on a daily basis and I really do wish him all the best because last season he had a bit of a hard time that not a lot of people knew about.

"But he conducted himself outstandingly and that typified the type of guy he is.

“I wish there was more people in the footballing world like Liam Grimshaw.

“You’d have never known he was in the building, when he was in, he trained like a trojan ever day.

"And when he was asked to play in positions that weren’t too accustomed to him, he played there like he’d been there for fifty years.

“He went about it as a professional should and got on with it. But that’s down to Liam and the upbringing he’s had down south at Man United and the like.

“He conducted himself so well and tried to improve himself for the sake of the club every day and he’ll be a huge miss for us next season. I’ve no doubt about it because I think he was one of the best players in the league last season.

“He was outstanding for us."

Imrie, however, has been left smarting over the circumstances surrounding Calvin Miller's exit.

He revealed that there had been a deal agreed with the former Celtic kid, as the Tele had reported a fortnight ago, only for a change of heart at the eleventh hour as Miller completed a move to League One outfit Falkirk.

The manager said: “We’re disappointed to lose out on him, we had a deal agreed with Calvin and then at the last hurdle things changed, and unfortunately for him he’s ended up in League One.

“But that’s something he’ll have to live with.

"I’d have loved to have kept him, we had it all agreed and then at the last minute the goalposts were changed.

"There’s not much we can do on that.

“It’s now up to us to go and find a player with the same calibre as Calvin now.”
