THE Newark Angling Club held their Fly Only and All Lures competition on Loch Ba on the Rannoch moor.

The 22 anglers who made the journey would return a total of 52 wild brown trout.

The anglers fishing the fly were competing for the Bobby Lynn trophy for heaviest fish returned on the fly.

Heaviest Bag returned on the fly would take the club's fly champion and claim the Newark Salver.

The anglers competing for the all lures prize who returned the heaviest bag would win the John Matthews trophy.

Members fishing the all lures would see good returns on the maggot.

Gary Armstrong, fishing his favourite mark at the boat house on the loch, would return three Ba trout to the scales.

For Gilbert Bradley, fishing his favourite mark on the Ba, it would be late in the day that he would return his bag limit of eight of the loch's wild brown trout.

The anglers fishing the river reported loads of undersize trout.

Henry Harrison would return one nice trout just under the pound.

Fergal Island on Loch Ba has saw great returns of the loch's wild Brownies.

Stevie Leitch returned his bag limit of eight trout.

Of the anglers who opted for the long trek over the moor, Ian Ross fished his favourite mark on the loch and returned his bag limit of eight Ba brownies on the maggot.

The same area would see Billy Stirling returning three Ba wild Brownies.

That old campaigner Brian Trainer, fishing the spinner, would return four nice trout.

The winner of the all lures trophy was George Martin. Fishing on Fergal Island, George would return undersize trout but would return his bag limit of eight Loch Ba wild brown trout and lift the silverware.

The anglers fishing the fly reported a slow start in the morning.

The Muddler Fly would return some nice fish and there where four returns on the fly for Neil McDowell.

John Miller would return some undersize trout.

Barry Doolan went fishing down the southside on the loch along with George Gemmell Junior.

Both anglers would catch and return undersize trout on the fly and both returned five trout each.

It was a close call at the scales and George would come out on top to lift the Fly champion trophy for 2023.

Junior Result: 1st Callum McDonald (1for) 0lbs 9ozs.
