Greenock parkrun, event number 414, September 9

ON a very misty morning on the Esplanade, 118 people ran, jogged and walked the course.

Eighteen were Greenock first timers, including two runners who were taking part in their first ever parkrun.

Eleven people recorded new PBs and representatives of 14 different clubs took part.

The local dolphins were also in attendance!

Among the visitors were Antony and Sally who are currently walking the entire British coast, which is 6,000 miles long, for RNLI. Antony took part in the parkrun while Sally cheered him on.

It was great to see them and parkrun wishes them all the very best for the remainder of their walk.

Also visiting Greenock was Gilly Harrison who is in the process of completing her parkrun alphabet challenge and chose Greenock for her 'G'. She is going abroad to get her 'Z' next weekend which will complete her challenge.

There was one volunteer milestone this week, Joseph McFadden has now volunteered 25 times.

Greenock first timer Tom Rogers, of Belle Vue Racers, was first to finish the course in 16:56. He was followed by Neil McLaughlin (17:43) and Owen Atkinson (18:40).

First of the ladies to finish was another first timer, Caris Strachan of Newburgh Dunes Running Club (21:51). Edinburgh AC's Laura Kyle was second lady (22:28) followed by Jacky Mercey (another first timer) in 23:24.

The event was made possible by 16 volunteers: Sonya Cassidy, David MacDiarmid, Gillian McDougall, John Stevenson, Eileen Stevenson, Sharon Black, Moira McCluckie, Stephen Harrison, Lynne Harrison, Irene McIntosh, Lesley Dick, Joseph McFadden, Tracey Howe, Marjorie Morrison, Arashk Mohseni and Janice Lowles.
