THREE local Flag American footballers have been called up by Scotland.

The Inverclyde Phoenix trio were chosen to represent their country at an international tournament to be held in Slovenia in July following successful trials held at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell.

Justin Goodall, 15, and Charlie Rose, 14, will be part of the under-15 Scotland squad, while Gregor Flynn, 15, will be part of the under-17 national squad. They were chosen from almost 70 trialists.

Greenock Telegraph:

Phoenix head coach Vince Gillen said: “I am so pleased for the boys. We are a small squad and to have three chosen to play for Scotland is a great achievement and is a reward for their hard work over the past few years.”

“Flag American Football is a steadily growing sport, with youth teams in Scotland developing in leaps and bounds, especially since the sport has been chosen as a new Olympic trial sport. The emphasis is on fun and teamwork, and both boys and girls can play together on the team.”

“We have just returned from an Edinburgh tournament where we won the Scottish Flag Football Winter League Plate Competition, winning all four of our games.

“We train all year round and are always looking for more players. We hope to build three teams: Under 11s, Under 15s and Under 17s so please get in touch if you want to try out. We can be found on Facebook and X and can be contacted on 07905858577."
