Greenock Juniors FC lost 2-1 to Kilsyth Athletic FC in a match marked by errors and controversy.
Saturday's game, which took place at Greenock Juniors' home ground, saw both teams failing to showcase their full potential.
The match, described as "largely error strewn," was decided more by luck than skill, with Greenock having a "strong suspicion" of offside for Kilsyth's first goal.
Gary Fleming opted for the same team that played most of the second half the previous week against Glenvale.
However, the composed, patient play that almost turned that match around was replaced by a puzzling long-ball approach that bypassed the midfield, hampering Greenock and only occasionally troubling their opponents.
Kilsyth, on the other hand, passed the ball around nicely at times in the first half but failed to produce much in terms of results.
The first significant chance of the game came Greenock's way in the 17th minute, but it was Kilsyth who took the lead in the 33rd minute.
Greenock gave away a foul 10 metres into their half, and the cross into the box was headed towards goal by Scullion.
Beaton managed to palm the ball onto the bar, but Dale Fulton nodded the ball into the net from what appeared to be an offside position.
Despite Greenock’s protestations, the goal was given.
Greenock had a chance to equalise on the cusp of half-time when Jamie Black was brought down in the penalty box.
Craig Brown, who had a 100 per cent record with spot kicks, saw his shot saved by Kilsyth's keeper, Rose, allowing Kilsyth to carry their lead into half-time.
Greenock finally found the equaliser in the 59th minute after being awarded their second penalty of the match.
McKenzie, again through in the penalty box, was wiped out by goalkeeper Rose.
Ryan Sinnamon, with the aid of the underside of the bar, equalised for Greenock.
As the half progressed, Kilsyth seemed content to settle for a point, while Greenock chased the win.
However, Greenock failed to capitalise on their second-half superiority and paid the price in the 88th minute.
Kilsyth, in a rare forward move, won a free kick on the left side of Greenock’s penalty area.
The well-placed delivery was bundled home by Carr, giving the visitors the lead and the three points.
While the result was a disappointment for Greenock, the team is hopeful that they have learned a valuable lesson.
The team line-up for Greenock Juniors FC was: Beaton, Boyle, Tonner, Paterson, Corr (Barclay 79 mins), Cunningham, Brown (Docherty 89 mins), Black, Sinnamon, Lambert (McGonigle 89 mins), McKenzie (Patton 74 mins).
Greenock Juniors FC is sponsored by Saveheat, Keystore Cowal View, Safer Group, The Lighthouse Bar, McGills, ARC, and Blairs.
