A TALENTED young bowler from Greenock has won three international caps while still a teenager.
John Fleming, who is only 19, represented Scotland at senior level in the Men’s British Isles Home International Series in Llandrindod Wells in Wales.
He skipped the under-25s to progress to a full international.
The three games against the home nations were close affairs, despite England coming out on top and Scotland finishing fourth.
He said: “It’s great at my age that I was picked for Scotland at that level.
“The first game against England was very close and down to the last bowl, then against Wales we were playing the Commonwealth champion Robert Weale.
“Against Ireland it was close until half-time.
“Selectors said it was the closest three games they’d ever seen at a home international.
“My own skip on the way home said I really played really well through the three games despite the result.
“It could have gone either way, we could have been champions.”
John will now represent Port Glasgow Bowling Club in the under-25s junior singles national championships at Northfield Bowling Club in Ayr on July 29.
