GREENOCK cricket ace Richie Berrington was in top form for Scotland as the national side narrowly missed out on recording one of their greatest ever victories over New Zealand.

The 27-year-old former Glenparker was part of the Saltires side that fell just one run short of a famous win over a star-studded Blackcaps XI in a World Cup 2015 warm-up fixture on Wednesday.

Richie was the star bowler for the Scots with 3-66 while he also clocked up 10 runs from 18 balls.

The Clydesdale all-rounder appears to be back to his best after recovering from an ankle injury at the start of the season.

The former Greenock Academy pupil has impressed in Scotland colours in recent wins over Tasmania and the final fixture against Ireland in the recent three-match series, which the Scots lost 2-1.

Scotland kick-off their World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand on 17 February against the Blackcaps followed by mouth-watering fixtures with England, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Australia.
