GREENOCK Cricket Club star Neil Flack is to captain his country at the world cup.

Neil will skipper the Scotland squad that will compete in the ICC Under-19 tournament in Bangladesh in January and February.

The young Scots face a stern test in Group A against current U19 champions South Africa (29 January) before taking on Bangladesh (30 January) and Namibia (2 February).

Neil will lead his squad to Dhaka for two warm up games against West Indies and Fiji where they’ll encounter some unfamiliar conditions, before heading south to Cox’s Bazar for their group fixtures.

Scotland booked their place at this edition of the U19 World Cup after winning the only available European slot during the ICC U19 Qualifier in Jersey.

Neil, pictured, said: “I'm so proud to be announced as captain for the Under 19 World Cup. As a group we can't wait to get out there and play against the likes of South Africa and Bangladesh, and see if we can cause a big upset.”

The squad will prepare for the tournament with a training camp in Sri Lanka on 12 January before arriving in Bangladesh on 20 January.
