DOUGIE Imrie says that his patience has paid off after he landed his sixth signing of the summer by bringing in former Scotland under-21, Hearts and Raith goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald.

The 37-year-old stopper has agreed a one year deal at Cappielow.

He has a wealth of experience having turned out at venues like Anfield and White Hart Lane for the Jambos in the Europa League and will now compete with Ton's current number one Ryan Mullen, who also joined the club this summer from League Two side Clyde.

MacDonald worked with Mullen for a spell last summer at Raith and will now team up with the former Celtic kid again this season.

The Tele understands that the stopper knocked back a chance to go South Africa and sign with Cape Town Spurs, who have signed ex-Ton custodian Sam Ramsbottom this week.

Imrie believes that MacDonald's experience will be invaluable to his side.

He exclusively told the Tele: "It's great to get Jamie in.

"Obviously we've got young Ryan as well who's a fantastic goalkeeper in his own right.

"Now we've got Jamie in too, who's done it all.

"Last season I thought he was one of the best goalkeepers in our league and he's got a great experience behind him too.

"So I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"He's worked with Ryan before, so that'll be good for them to work together again moving forward.

"We're just delighted to have someone of Jamie's calibre.

"He left Raith in the summer and had a few things offered to him that didn't materialise, but when you get someone of his stature available and willing to come to the club, you've got to take that opportunity with both hands and I'm excited to see how he gets on here.

"Sometimes you need those kind of things to happen and work in your favour, or you just need to wait and hope that it works out in the end.

"There's been things that haven't worked out for Jamie that have worked out for ourselves, so I'm delighted to get that bit of experience in.

"I think experience in that area is something we lacked last season.

"Young Brian Schwake was fantastic in that position for us but I think at certain points of last season having someone of Jamie's calibre would've helped for sure.

"I've now got two wonderful goalkeepers fighting for one position, which is a great luxury to have.

"It's up to them to fight it out from here on in."
