MORTON'S Kirk Broadfoot says he and his team-mates need to try and turn the Rangers home crowd against their side when the clubs meet in the League Cup on Saturday.

The veteran defender admits that Ton face a massive task in the glamour tie at Ibrox, but insists they should not be overawed by it.

He says that his experience as both a home and an away player at the venue shows just how important it is to utilise the 40,000 strong crowd and their expectation levels.

He told the Tele: “Rangers will be huge favourites heading into the game.

"We just need to hope that they have a massive off day.

“We know it’s going to be difficult.

"We’d probably need half of their team to be sleeping and for our guys to have the game of their lives, but that’s the magic of the cup, anything can happen.

"“It’s a game we’re relishing, we’re not afraid.

“I’ve been on the end of a few hostile afternoons at Ibrox as a home player.

"With us being a Championship side, the fans will be expecting a five or six-nil victory.

“If they’re not up and running in the first 15-20 minutes then they do get a bit frustrated.

"So that’s what we need to do, try to keep a clean sheet and frustrate them.

“We need to hope that their fans do give them a wee bit, then it makes them a wee bit nervy about whether to go and make that goalscoring pass or keep it safe."

The 39-year-old stopper admits he never thought he’d grace the turf of Ibrox again when he went into the Lowland League at the beginning of last season, so he is relishing the chance to return.

He said: “I didn’t think I'd go back to Ibrox as a player.

"I’m looking forward to it and I hope it’s not the last time either.

"I’m feeling good, I’m feeling fit, so it would be nice to have a good season and see what happens next year."

Rangers have lots of new faces after a squad revamp this summer but Broadfoot says the chances of them being complacent are slim.

He said: “The boys who’ve been there for a few years now will have probably told them what to expect.

"A draw at home is the end of the world.

"They need to win every game and they need to do it comfortably."

Broadfoot is hoping that he and his team-mates can perform with credit to atone for last week's frustrating league loss in Kirkcakdy.

He told the Tele: “We go there with the bit between our teeth after last week against Raith, which was really disappointing.

"I thought in the most part we played well and passed the ball. I don’t think we get enough credit for that.

“If you watch that game, we passed the ball well and it was three poor goals to concede. We’ll do better.”
