MORTON boss Dougie Imrie is glad he doesn't have to put up with VAR every week.

Ton felt hard done by in their league cup tie at Ibrox on Saturday when the video assistant sent ref David Dickinson to the monitor to check for a possible penalty for Rangers which he awarded.

The Ton boss pointed out that nobody in the Rangers camp claimed for a foul at the spot-kick incident.

Imrie says that as soon as he saw the whistler head to the VAR screen he knew what the outcome would be.

He said: “It’s very telling that nobody seemed to claim for a penalty, yet the decision came from VAR with no communication.

“That's the thing with VAR, you don’t know what’s going on then suddenly everything stops and you look up at the big screen and it says 'VAR check'.

“I think that as soon as the referee comes over, it means it's going to be a penalty.

“I only remember one from last season that was overturned and that was when Nick Walsh overturned a call in the play-off final last year.

"Nine times out of ten it's a penalty.

"We don’t get it every week so the whole thing is new to us.

“We obviously had it once last season and that was at Parkhead where one went against us too.

“I can only sit after the game and be really proud. If we can continue to perform like that then we’ll have another successful season.”
