MORTON boss Dougie Imrie hopes he can mastermind his side's progress to the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter finals at the expense of Kelty Hearts after picking the brains of current European and Scottish Premiership champions this week.

The Ton manager was in London as part of his UEFA pro-licence course and had the opportunity to speak to West Ham boss and Europa Conference League winner David Moyes as well as ex-Celtic Premiership title winner and current table-topping Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou.

Greenock Telegraph:

Imrie was keen to tap into the pair's elite expertise and says his week down south was 'an eye-opener'.

He told the Tele: "It was just a different level with the facilities that were on offer.

"I got the opportunity to have a look in and around Brentford's training ground and the London Stadium where West Ham play.

"Speaking to David Moyes for four hours was a superb experience.

"It was brilliant to hone in on his insight to the game and the experiences that he's had, from being a young manager to winning a European trophy.

"But even some of the stuff that's going on at West Ham at the moment isn't too dissimilar to some of the things that I've encountered.

"It just shows you that it doesn't matter what level you are at, you're always going to encounter problems both on and off the park.

"It was an eye opener to see that the same stuff can happen at every club, regardless of their size or the magnitude of what they've achieved.

"We met with Ange Postecoglou in central London and he was just top level.

"Listening to how he sees the game and sets his teams up was really interesting.

"Everything's space-orientated, he spoke about how the front three rarely move to keep that overload at the top end of the park. If you look at it, it's simplistic but you need the right players to do it.

"There was a lot of good insight and technical details and there are certainly points that I want to take from it and incorporate.

"But again it's the same mentality that you hear from all levels: if you don't run, you'll not play for me.

"That's everyone and it's my principles too, both with and without the ball.

"It's been a great three days to go away and learn and take ideas into how I see the game, but now the full focus is on the Kelty Hearts game tomorrow."

Imrie says he knows his side will be in for a tough afternoon against Michael Tidser's outfit.

He said: "We're under no illusions as to how difficult it'll be.

"But it doesn't matter what competition it is, the Championship, league cup, Scottish Cup or SPFL Trust Trophy, we want to win every game.

"That's the nature of football and that's the main thing I took from this week, especially from Ange - that it's all about winning.

"It's the way I've always been and that's my outlook on the game."
