DETERMINED Morton boss Dougie Imrie says the magnitude of this weekend's Championship six pointer against Inverness couldn't be any greater.

Rock bottom Ton head into the game off the back of a league draw against Queen's Park and a resounding 4-1 win over Kelty Hearts to seal progress to the SPFL Trust Trophy last eight.

The Cappielow boss hopes that the momentum will allow his side to put in a complete performance against Duncan Ferguson's men and gain three precious points that would get them off the foot of the Championship.

Imrie told the Tele: "It's a massive game for both clubs.

"The last two games have been positive in terms of results and progressing in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

"Hopefully that can give the players a boost in confidence and that we can actually come out on Saturday and show that we're the team we're capable of being.

"I thought the second half last week was a much better performance from ourselves, but that's been the story of our season.

"We've not really kicked into gear for the full 90 minutes. In games we've found ourselves 2-0 down or 1-0 down and then we've had to go in the second half or we've been good in the first half and then let ourselves down in the second.

"Hopefully on Saturday we can get a full 90 minutes of everyone bang at it so that we can get a positive result.

"If we can do that then it's something to take into the Ayr United game the week after which would be massive.

"For me, the next two games we've got are really important for our season.

"I don't think either Inverness or ourselves would have envisaged having a start to the season like we have, you could probably include Ayr in that as well.

"The three teams had a great season last year, albeit Inverness had a period of three or four months with horrid injuries which killed them for a while. But once they got everyone back they went on that unbelievable run towards the end of the season."

Imrie has praised his players for their work-rate and says they're giving him everything they've got. He believes they still have plenty of time left to climb the table.

He said: "It's early doors in the season and nothing is won in October. But I'm not silly enough not to understand that we need to start winning sooner rather than later.

"The boys have given me everything this season, it's just unfortunate that we've shot ourselves in the foot at times this season, regarding daft goals or not punishing teams at the other end.

"If we can start cutting out those errors then we can start to push up the league."
