MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has backed Scottish Cup hero Logan O'Boy to have a bright future in the game.

The teenager hit the headlines last Saturday after he came on as a sub and won a penalty for Ton's third goal before netting the fourth himself.

Imrie believes the young prospect has shown enough to be involved in his first team group.

The 17-year-old has trained with the squad for the last three weeks or more and has impressed.

Imrie told the Tele: "I was disappointed for Logan a fortnight ago as I wanted to get him on against Airdrie in the SPFL Trust Trophy. But the officials didn't see that we were trying to get a substitute on and then his time had passed him by through no fault of his own.

"I was delighted that we were able to get him on against Bo'ness last weekend and thought he showed up very, very well.

"For his goal he started and finished the move, and he won the penalty that Robbie Muirhead scored as well.

"He's got a bright future but he's got to keep his feet on the ground and when his chances come, he needs to take them.

"Logan will keep learning as he makes his way in the game. He's only young so we need to look after him properly. But I've always been a believer of the saying if you're good enough then you're old enough.

"In the small time we've had him in with the first team he has shown that he's good enough to be in and around the group.

"I'm not scared or frightened to play the kids and Logan's taken that chance handed to him.

"He's in his final year of his apprenticeship so it's a big year for him.

"But there's no better way to start when you're getting your chance in the first team than winning a penalty and scoring a goal.

"He'll get more opportunities, but to do that he needs to make sure he's working as hard as possible in training."

Meanwhile Imrie has confirmed that talisman Jai Quitongo will be out for a while after he suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

The Ton boss says he now needs to manage his long-term absentee carefully.

He said: "Unfortunately Jai's going to be missing for a few weeks.

"It's not a reoccurrence, but it's in the same area so we just need to be careful with him.

"That's what I mean when I say we need to make sure that players are 100 per cent before coming back from injury.

"It's a problem that you see with a lot of players coming back from long term ones.

"They need time.

"Jai just needs to take things back a wee bit and let his body recover."
