MORTON'S man of the moment George Oakley admits he can barely believe he and team-mate Robbie Muirhead have produced perfect hat-tricks in consecutive matches - but insists he is much more focused on keeping his side's unbeaten run going.

The 27-year-old striker notched a math-winning tremendous treble at Tannadice on Saturday, just four days after his colleague had done likewise at Cappielow against Ayr.

Oakley says the sensational 3-2 weekend victory over Dundee United can propel his side to a new level and feels people are finally beginning to see the true extent of their potential.

He told the Tele: "I don't know if consecutive perfect hat-tricks have ever happened for any team before, and I don't know if it'll happen again.

"I'm just taking the mantle from Robbie!

"It was brilliant to do it, but more importantly good for the team because it meant we got a very valuable three points.

"Personally it's great but it helps us in the league going into the second half of the season.

"Dundee United are a good team, but the togetherness which we have came to the fore against them.

"Coming away with a win like that is great for the morale of the group. But we knew we were capable of doing it before a ball was kicked.

"We went on a similar size of a winning run at a similar stage of last season. Now people are seeing the real us again."

Oakley says it would be a sensational turnaround if Ton could go on to end up in the promotion play-offs after spending months languishing at the foot of the table.

He said: "This run that we're on has the potential to be some story, given how things were looking at the start of last month.

"But we always knew that we were capable of doing this. We have the experience, we have the togetherness, it's all there.

"I've never once doubted the boys in the dressing room at any point in the first half of the season.

"I think that people are now beginning to see the real us and we've just got to keep it going for as long as possible because we can see what things are like at the other end of the scale.

"We've been on the wrong end of a poor run and we don't want to do that again."
