MORTON's man of the moment Iain Wilson says it was a 'no brainer' to put pen to paper on a permanent Cappielow deal until 2025 after his exit from Queen of the South was agreed.

Ton boss Dougie Imrie and Doonhamers counterpart Marvin Bartley came to an agreement to rip up Wilson's contract with the League One Dumfries outfit early after he flourished during a loan spell in Greenock.

Wilson has been in fantastic form for Ton over the last couple of months, playing a key role in the team's resurgence. Now he will be staying around for the next 18 months.

Wilson told the Tele: "I'm really pleased to get it sorted and now be back at Morton on a permanent basis.

"The last ten weeks have been particularly enjoyable, but I've enjoyed my full loan spell here since arriving.

"It's better when you're winning games, there's no doubt about that, but I've enjoyed the full spell here. It's a great group of boys to be in and around on a day-to-day basis."

Wilson enjoyed a previous short stint with the club in 2022 and had hoped to stay on then, so he is relieved to make it second time lucky.

He said: "I wanted to stay the first time around, but there was a lot of uncertainty around deals at the time and I ended up going to Queen of the South, which was fine because I've been there a few times in my career and enjoyed it.

"But when the opportunity came up to come back here, to come back into the Championship - it was a no brainer and an opportunity that I wanted to pursue.

"It wasn't something that I was going to pass up, I wasn't going to let a chance like this pass me by again, so I'm delighted to be here permanently.

"Heading into the final six months of the season, it gives me a bit of security for next year too, which is brilliant.

"I just need to get my head down and try to play well. I think at our level of football you can't let your foot off the gas at all because you're playing for your future all the time. I'm no different and I hope that this rich vein of form we are in can continue."

Wilson is looking forward to being able to play a part in Ton's cup tie against Montrose this weekend.

He told the Tele: "I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday. We've been in good form in the league but Montrose are a tough side who need to be shown respect. It won't be an easy one. Montrose are a good experienced team."
