MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says that securing the services of Iain Wilson and Logan O'Boy until the summer of 2025 is a move that protects the club both short and long term.

The midfield duo penned new eighteen month contracts on Tuesday, with O'Boy sisnging his first professional contract and Wilson exiting Queen of the South to turn his Cappielow loan into a permanent switch.

The Ton boss had already extended the deal of his goalkeeper Ryan Mullen as he looks to secure the spine of his team for the next couple of years.

Imrie told the Tele: "I'm delighted we've managed to keep Iain longer term. When he first came in on his loan people maybe didn't get to see the best of him because he was getting over an injury.

"It took him a few weeks to get up to speed and we then started picking up injuries and he's had to fill in at full-back, both sides, and in the middle of the pitch. He's been outstanding for us in there and made the position his own.

"I wanted to keep Iain the first time around when we had him here two seasons ago. There were other factors involved that meant we weren't able to get him. I'll keep those matters private but I was frustrated because he'd done really well for us over the six months he was with us.

"I wasn't going to miss the chance of keeping him again, so I'm grateful to the board that they've managed to get this deal done.

"It's not just Iain's performances in the middle of the park, you've seen he's perfectly capable of being versatile enough to play elsewhere to a similar standard. We're very fortunate to have a player of his calibre."

Meanwhile Imrie admits that he has been blown away by the maturity shown by academy graduate O'Boy and says that's why he was keen to tie him down on a professional contract.

Greenock Telegraph:

The immediate plan for the youngster is to now go out on loan and grow with first team experience.

He said: "Logan's a young kid and he's only come into my environment in the last two and a half months.

"For him to progress in the way that he has, coming on and scoring against Bo'ness has been brilliant.

"I've been a bit frustrated for him, because I've been wanting to get him on and get him experience and it has been difficult to get him minutes on the pitch.

"The deal is one that protects everyone's interests long term and it gives Logan the chance to go away and work on his game, getting fitter and stronger.

"We'll now try to get him away out on loan from the Championship, to get him some valuable game time at a level that's better than playing under-18s football.

"But if we can't find anyone that works for not only him but us then we'll try to get him more minutes here when the time is right."
