MORTON boss Dougie Imrie hopes he's found the next Championship goal machine after the Cappielow side announced the signing of former Welsh Futsal international Jordan Davies on a pre-contract agreement.

The 28-year-old striker will leave Cymru Premier League side Connah's Quay Nomads at the end of the current season for a two-year deal with Ton.

Davies has been in red hot form in the Welsh league this season, netting an astonishing 21 goals in 26 games in all competitions during the first half of the campaign.

Imrie was keen to move quickly to seal a deal for the striker, nipping in ahead of any potential rivals to secure his signature.

Part-timers Nomads currently sit in second place in their league, 15 points adrift of runaway leaders The New Saints, who are spearheaded by one-time Morton hero Declan McManus.

Imrie hopes that he's unearthed a gem who can make their mark north of the border in a similar way to Dipo Akinyemi did with Ayr United last season.

He told the Tele: "It's an opportunity for Jordan to come to Scotland, a different culture and environment. Hopefully he can kick onto a new level.

"We're only into January and he's got 21 goals already, and seven assists, this season. The numbers look good on paper, but it'll be up to Jordan to come up here and set the heather alight.

"Of course there will be comparisons now after Akinyemi's contributions for Ayr last season, along with hopes and expectations.

"Hopefully I've been able to be one step ahead of the game and we've unearthed another gem from down the road that's flown under the radar.

"He's one I've watched a lot on video, and by going to watch in person, so I'm confident that he can have an impact on the team. He can score goals with his left foot, right foot and his head.

"His movement is very good as well, so on first glance we've got a very good player.

"But we'll have to get him in the building, integrated with the rest of the group and see what kind of player he's going to be for Morton."
