HARD taskmaster Dougie Imrie has warned his Morton side to cut out complacency as he targets even more games undefeated and a play-off slot.

Ton are unbeaten in 10 after producing a superb spell of form to hoist themselves off the foot of the Championship and they have just booked a spot in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup by seeing off Montrose.

The run is similar to the one his side pieced together last winter, but the boss wants to see his current crop go one better this time round and reach the promotion shoot-out this term.

Imrie said: “We’ve gone all of December and now most of January undefeated whereas last year we went through from the end of October to December undefeated and then never won a game in January.

“There are similarities between the two squads, but in fairness there hasn’t been a lot of change to the team.

“We lost a few players in the summer, but I think we’ve been able to replace them.

“There’s a good group here, they come in here every day and work hard and knock their pan in. I can’t fault them for their effort.

“However one thing that I may ask a bit more of from them is to cut out the complacency that they allow to creep into their game at times.

“With no disrespect, that’s why they’re probably at the level they’re at. Because if you want to be a top, top player then you need to perform at 100 per cent every week both in training and on a Saturday.

“If you can do that, then bigger teams will come calling because they’ll see that.

“That would be my only complaint, some of them have thought at the weekend, 'it’s only Montrose, it’ll be easy'.

“You can’t think like that, you’ve got to treat every game as if you’re playing the Old Firm and approach every day with that mindset.”

Imrie admits he wants a top four finish to better last year's fifth position and feels that if his side can maintain consistency then they will be very close.

But he insists that they must keep their feet on the ground and focus only on the immediate challenges ahead.

He said: "We’ll not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet.

“We just like to fly under the radar and take things one game at a time.

“If we can keep the form going for the next two or three months then you never know what could happen.”
