MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has warned his side that they can’t feel sorry for Arbroath and their injury woes as he targets taking the Cappielow men to ELEVEN games unbeaten.

Ton welcome Jim McIntyre’s men to Cappielow for the first time since their historic victory in Angus in December but Imrie was keen to put any niceties to one side as he warned his side that any less than 100 per cent effort could see them surrender their run that stretches back to the end of November - and hamper their chances of keeping in touch with Airdrie in fourth place.

The match also gives Morton the chance to move 11 points clear of tomorrow’s opponents.

Imrie told the Tele: “It’ll be a tough game, but we want to try and beat Arbroath and make it 11 games unbeaten for the club.

“I watched them on Tuesday night, in horrific conditions may I add, I don’t think the game should have gone ahead, but they’re fighting for their lives.

“Again, seven minutes into the game they lose another player to injury - they’ve been battered from pillar to post in that regard actually. But we can’t feel sorry for them, we had the same issue and paid the price earlier on this season.

“That mean’s we’ll need to be professional, to give Arbroath the respect they’re due because they’re still trying to win games.

“We’re at home, we want to win and if we can then we keep the pressure on Airdrie for that fourth spot.

"And if we win we go 11 points in front of Arbroath, that’s the aim, but I firmly believe the boys will put in a good performance.

“I thought at times on Saturday, we were lacklustre against Montrose and I’ve warned the players that they can’t have that mindset when playing a seemingly lower opposition.

“We can’t take our foot off the gas and try to ease through games because it’ll come back to bite us.

“We can’t have that mindset that they’re crippled with injuries just now. We need to get after them and go for the jugular.”

Imrie says that their hoodoo ending win back in December will mean nothing if they don’t follow it up with a performance of the same ilk.

He added: “My message to the boys this week has been simple. Whatever 11 is selected to go out on the park, they need to take the game to Arbroath.

“We had a good result up there the last time against them, but that’s in the past and we need to do the same again.

“The set-up that they come to Cappielow with could be really strange to some, they finished their game on Tuesday with three forwards playing in the back four.

“They’re very stretched at the moment and I feel for Jim. He’s been the man to replace Dick Campbell and it’s just been one thing after another for him since.

“It’s difficult, but I believe that they’ll get through it, but we need to try to get an early goal and keep pushing.

"They’re still a good side with good players.”
