OPTIMISTIC Morton defender Darragh O’Connor has revealed the secret behind the Cappielow men’s ten game unbeaten run - and he believes it’ll help them go one better against Arbroath this weekend.

The towering Irishman says that the camaraderie in the dressing room cannot be undermined as he touched on how it helped pull the group out of the tough period that saw them slump to the bottom of the Championship.

But now, ten games on, O’Connor says that the Ton faithful are now seeing the fruits of the successful recruitment of boss Dougie Imrie in the summer as their season looks to come together at the right time.

He told the Tele: “There is a great camaraderie in the dressing room, we’re now close to getting back to having a full squad and there’s lots of competition for places, which is positive.

“That camaraderie can’t be underestimated. It was so key to helping us out of the bad period that we were in and then continuing the run that we’ve been on.

“Last year we had one surgery by this point of the season, that was me with my hand.

“Then if you fast forward 12 months, we’ve had five, by the same time. Last year was a bit of a one-off with no injuries and this year unfortunately it’s been the exact opposite.

“It’s been frustrating for everyone, even the lads being injured, because you work your way back to fitness and being match ready and suddenly another one’s dropped out.

“I’ve said it before, I think we’ve replaced the boys who left at the end of the season with better players. So the tide has obviously turned and you’re seeing the fruits of that.

“We’re ten unbeaten, gaining six clean sheets in that time. If you’re getting those numbers then you’re doing something right.”

TEAM NEWS

Morton boss Dougie Imrie will be pleased to welcome back key man Jack Baird for the visit of basement side Arbroath - but he'll be without two key performers heading into the tie.

Imrie will be without veteran custodian Jamie MacDonald who's sidelined with a long running issue, thought to be in his knee.

He's also lost Jai Quitongo whose precautionary scan midweek showed damage to the ligaments in his knee, more to be revealed in tomorrow's Tele.

Steven Boyd is also out injured as his future at the club looks set to be resolved soon.
