MORTON manager Dougie Imrie has signalled his commitment to the club by signing a new two-and-a-half year contract.

Having moved to Cappielow in 2021, Imrie is now the longest serving manager in the Scottish Championship.

The new contract will see him remain at the club until the summer 2026.

He's won or drawn more than 70 per cent of the games in which he's been the Morton manager.

Dale Pryde-MacDonald, the club's general manager, said: “As a club, we are delighted to get Dougie’s new deal signed.

"He has been an integral part of what the club has become over the last couple of years, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him and his staff so far.

“It’s very clear to see we have one of Scotland’s most promising young managers here and we want Dougie to keep adding blocks to the foundations he has laid for the club with the support of myself and the board.

"Dougie is currently the longest-serving manager in the Championship, and that is a testament to the hard work and commitment he gives to his role and the football club.

“Prior to when I joined the club, although we were in a bad spell of form due to injuries, I was very comfortable that we had the right man in the dugout and that has been proven over recent times.

"It is my job to enable Dougie and his staff, and to give them my utmost support as they go forward.”

Chairman John Laird added: “The board, along with the general manager, were keen to look at Dougie’s future to make sure we best protected the football club.

"The statistics since Dougie has joined Greenock Morton speak for themselves. He has a clear identity and vision of where he wants to take the football department which the board and general manager are working to support.

“As well as being the longest-serving manager in the Scottish Championship, Dougie has proven himself capable of building squads that can compete in the top half of the league, which is encouraging for everybody to see.

"We will continue to support Dougie’s development and progress as much as possible in the times ahead.”
