MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has been given certain promises by the Cappielow chiefs which led to him penning a new two-and-a-half-year deal, the Tele can reveal.

The Ton boss, whose stock continues to rise among the highest that the Championship has to offer, surprised many by signing the new deal on Thursday evening that will run until the summer of 2026.

It is understood that talks had been ongoing for a number of weeks, with his current deal set to turn into a one-year rolling contract this June.

And it is thought that as both sides of the table were locked in discusion, the Ton supremo sought certain assurances over matters such as his player budget moving forward.

Imrie has operated with one of the lowest kitty's in the Championship since his arrival at the club in December 2021 and has worked wonders since then, with one of the smallest squads in the league.

He has managed to pull off considerable coups for the club, with the likes of Robbie Crawford, Liam Grimshaw, George Oakley, Alan Power and Jamie MacDonald all outting pen to paper on deals at Sinclair Street, when offers could have swayed these key players elsewhere.

But it now appears that the Cappielow board may be prepared to let the handbrake off the coffers and back their man, even going ahead beyond the end of the season.

The deal will also see the club in line for compensation should Imrie’s stock continue to rise and grab the attention of potential suitors elsewhere.
