MORTON hitman George Oakley is relishing the idea of being barracked by visiting Motherwell fans in Friday night's cup tie due to his connections with their local rivals.

Oakley is just one of several ex-Hamilton Accies favourites who are preparing to take on their old county rivals at Cappielow.

He is joined in the ranks by fellow New Douglas Park old boys Grant Gillespie, Steven Boyd and Ton gaffer Dougie Imrie.

They featured in their fair share of Lanarkshire derbies and Oakley admits that will add spice to the tie.

He told the Tele: “If folk want me to be the pantomime villain, I don’t mind that having played with Hamilton for a few years.

“I know what football’s like, and I’ve played Motherwell a few times over the years. I’ve been on the end of a loss, and I’ve been on the end of a win.

“I know what feels better! I’m hoping that we can come away with a big result in front of a big crowd. We’re looking to come away with a win.

“It would be great to have an extended cup run. Look, anything’s possible with this team and I think people are now starting to believe that.

“We can only beat what’s in front of us, that happens to be Motherwell next, so we’ll deal with this game on Friday and then we’ll go and take things from there.”
