MOTHERWELL boss Stuart Kettlewell has praised Dougie Imrie and his Morton side ahead of the big cup tie at Cappielow tonight.

Both managers discussed the tie – which will be televised by the BBC - on BBC Radio Scotland this morning.

Kettlewell said people know ‘exactly’ why the game has been chosen for live broadcast.

He noted that each team’s recent 5-0 league wins – Morton away to Dunfermline on Saturday and Motherwell at home against Ross County on Tuesday - have set the scene nicely.

Kettlewell told the BBC: “How Morton are playing, how Dougie’s got them going…people aren’t silly - they know there’s a possibility of what would be an upset just purely in the league position.

“If you look around the country, Dougie’s Morton side are the form horses with how they have been playing over recent weeks.

“It's pretty unusual that you’re going to find a situation with two teams getting in off the back of their last domestic game having won 5-0.

“I think that probably tees it up even better for everyone watching tonight.”

Despite having a 12-game unbeaten run under their belt, Imrie insists his players know how big a challenge faces them at Cappielow tonight.

He said: “Confidence breeds into games and certainly at the moment we are on a fantastic run. Stuart has lost one in nine which was against Rangers which is no disgrace.

“Rangers are a top team. Stuart will be delighted with his run as well.

“We all want to get as far as we can in this competition and we are no different. We’ve got an opportunity but it’s a tough opportunity.

“We have to give respect to Motherwell, Stuart and his staff and players – but we’re looking forward to the game.”
