EMOTIONAL Morton defender Tyler French says the shock win over Motherwell was a huge watershed moment for him - as his last Scottish Cup appearance before then had ended in a horrific leg break.

On loan French was cleared to play in the tie as a result of Dundee’s fourth round elimination.

It was the first time he has been able to play in a cup competition for Ton and it worked out perfectly as he helped them to a stunning 2-1 victory over the Premiership side.

He told the Tele: “It was a 90 minutes that had everything, a proper cup tie and a brilliant result.

“It was nice to finally be able to play in the cup and help the boys out too, with it being agreed that I could now Dundee are out.

“It’s been something that I’ve wanted to do since the beginning of my loan here to be honest.

“The last time I played in the cup with Dundee, I broke my leg at St Mirren, which was the worst day of my career.

“So to finally play in the competition again was nice - and to get a quarter final place was brilliant.

“It’s a brilliant return and I couldn’t ask for much more.

“It’s a milestone for me, a huge one. That’s been a year now since the injury happened and I’m now starting to finally feel like myself again.

“Friday's win will be a special moment in my career.

“We conceded the goal late on, but the fans just took the noise up to another level and were brilliant in helping us hold on to our lead.

“It was superb. The noise that was generated from the crowd was brilliant to be in, it was right on top of you, and that’s why you get involved in football. We'll remember moments like that for the rest of our life.”

French believes that home advantage came to the fore against the Steelmen, with Cappielow packed to the rafters and the conditions testing for the visitors.

He told the Tele: “I think we played the conditions better than Motherwell.

“We made the right decisions at the right times, whether that was turning the ball at the right times or trying to play when it was on.

“I thought we deserved it over the course of the game. Motherwell might claim otherwise but I thought we were well worth our win.

“Home advantage counts at times like that. We know the park well and the crowd were right behind us, on our side and that probably helped us get it over the line in the end.”
