MORTON matchwinner George Oakley says he was able to relieve all of his frustrations at drawing a blank against Dunfermline by firing his side into the Scottish Cup quarter finals.

The 28-year-old striker is bang on form having picked up the January Player of the Month award last week.

And he made it six goals in his last six games with his 11th strike of the season as he helped the Cappielow side sink Motherwell on Friday night.

He told the Tele: “Last week at Dunfermline was frustrating as I had things cleared off the line, but I’m delighted to now be on 11 goals for the season.

“I’ve taken a lot of confidence because I’m getting in the right positions and putting good work in."

The modest striker also praised his team-mates for the vital service they are providing him with.

He said: “A striker’s only as good as the service that gets played into him. It’s amazing to be a part of this group because the boys are working so hard for each other.

“We’re winning games and scoring goals which is what you want.

“My goal was just down to confidence. I knew I had the beating of the defender, and if you don’t shoot you don’t score.

“Seven times out of ten I probably hit his legs with my shot, but I knew what I was doing and wanted to shoot through them and hit the far corner.”
