NEW Morton signing Jordan Davies hopes that his playing style and the uncompromising approach of manager Dougie Imrie can be a match made in heaven.

The 28-year-old agreed a pre-contract last month which will see him join the Cappielow club in the summer.

In the meantime he wants to end his chapter in the Welsh Premier League by firing Connah’s Quay Nomads into the Europa Conference League.

Davies admits he was surprised by Ton's swoop for his services and can’t wait to get stuck into the challenges that the move north will undoubtedly bring.

The player netted his 17th goal in 22 league outings against Newtown last weekend, which was his 23rd in 30 appearances in all competitions this term.

But he has also been keeping an eye on events in Greenock and says he has been impressed at the ambition shown by Ton.

Davies told the Tele: “I couldn’t believe a big club like Morton would be interested in me, even if I've done well so far this year.

“To move up to Inverclyde and play for Morton is a chance I couldn’t turn down.

“It will be a lot different from where I am currently living, but hopefully I get settled in pretty quickly and hit the ground running.

“My main focus for the time being is finishing strong with Connah's Quay and helping them secure second place, which would help them get into the Europa Conference qualifiers. That’d be the perfect way to sign off.

“When I spoke with Dougie and the general manager Dale it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. The project they have, matched with their ambition to do well, suits my personality.

“To get the chance to go up to Cappielow recently and watch the Montrose cup tie was special, to see the team play in real time was very good. But what I am most happy about is the way they play and the style the gaffer had."

Ton's new recruit has been tapping into the knowledge of former Cowshed favourite Declan McManus ahead of his move.

He said: “I’ve played against Declan a few times, he’s a special player.

“He’s such a nice guy as well, he’s been a great help.

"I’ve spoken to him about the move and the competition in Scotland, so he’s been a massive help.”

Davies cannot wait for the chance to turn out in front of a packed Cowshed, especially after seeing how over 5,000 fans turned out for Friday’s famous 2-1 Scottish Cup win over Premiership outfit Motherwell.

He believes that moving to full-time football will take his already impressive game to a whole new level.

Davies said: “The size of the crowd is massive compared to what I’m playing at now at Connah’s Quay and I’m looking forward to showing everyone what I can do.

“I’m excited to go full-time and I think it will hopefully bring my game to another level.

“It’s every lad's dream to play professional football and I’m going to be living it. It’s a pinch yourself moment but its one I’m not going to let pass me by.”
