MORTON defender Tyler French knows just what a win against title favourites Dundee United can do for a dressing room - and says that's why he will be treating Dunfermline with caution this weekend.

Ton head into the game against the Pars off the back of four losses on the spin, but the visitors will be in buoyant mood having just downed United.

They look to have turned things around since Ton battered them 5-0 at East End Park and French is on red alert ahead of their arrival in Greenock.

He told the Tele: "We know the levels we need to try and get to if we're to get anything against Dunfermline on Saturday.

"They're flying high just now off the back of a really good result against Dundee United last weekend.

"United are a good side who are up at the top of the league for very good reason. They've earned the right to be there. When you beat them, as we did back in January, it's a massive confidence booster for any side.

"I know Dunfermline also have a few lads back from injury too, which will be a big boost for them too. I'm expecting a good game and it's one personally I'm really looking forward to. It's a massive game and we want to win it. We want to get back in those play-off spots because we've been in them for so long and we want to prove that we're worthy of finishing there, that's our aim now."

Right back French was deployed in a rather peculiar defensive midfield position against Partick last time out, as he answered an SOS call from Dougie Imrie with the Ton chief light on bodies.

He said: "The last time I played in midfield, not that I've done it too many times in my career, was up at St Mirren for Dundee and I broke my leg. That wasn't a great memory to have, let me tell you. I had been a while since I'd last done it but I think the gaffer just wanted to try something a bit different and I was happy to answer the call.

"I'm quite versatile luckily. So anywhere any manager needs me to play, I'll try to do a job."
