A LOCAL footballer made headlines as he netted a stunning hat-trick against a star-studded Major League Soccer side.

Despite lining up against several Champions League winners, New York Red Bulls forward Lewis Morgan stole the spotlight with three spectacular strikes as his side ran out 4-0 winners against Inter Miami.

While the visitors were without global superstar and world cup winner Lionel Messi, their starting eleven included Barcelona legends Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

But it only took Morgan, a former Clydeview Academy pupil, three minutes to score his first against his former club, a right-footed effort which found its way into the bottom-left corner of the net.

The 27-year-old pounced again at the start of the second half before adding a third to his tally and a fourth to New York's in the 70th minute with a clinical finish.

The former Celtic winger also played a key role in his side's third goal, picking out his strike partner Dante Vanzier who in turn teed up youngster Wiki Carmona for the score.

Unsurprisingly, his efforts saw him named Major League Soccer's 'Player of the Matchday'.

Morgan has made 42 appearances for the Red Bulls since he signed for them in December 2021, having previously played for Inter Miami, Celtic and St Mirren.
