MORTON boss Dougie Imrie insists his side have overperformed this season - and says they will keep going until the end as they look to get back to winning ways and breathe fresh life into their play-off push.

The Ton boss has watched with mounting frustration over the last few weeks as his side have failed to pick up any points since the end of February. They have lost their place in the top four dropped to sixth place.

But he has today defended his men and says that injuries have been a huge factor in their recent slump.

He told the Tele: "We'll keep on going right until the end. But I'll keep on saying the same thing, we're punching well above our weight.

"The boys are giving absolutely everything and people need to remember that.

"I keep on saying it, but we have the smaller budget in this division. We shouldn't be anywhere near where we are but the boys are giving their full tank every week for this club and myself and the staff.

"They will go through periods of it not going the way that people want it too, and when you're losing players that can help you then you'll always be up against it.

"For the last four out of five games we've had four subs on the bench, we've been really restricted with what we've had at a really important time of the season."

Only a handful of points separate fourth and ninth and Imrie admits he has been cautious and playing his cards close to his chest when it comes to injury news and availability.

He said: "I always keep things close to my chest and I know that people are desperate for information. But why would I tell people who I have and don't have?

"I'd imagine that Dunfermline turned up last week and were a bit surprised when they saw not only George Oakley on the team sheet, but Jai Quitongo on the team sheet as well. Any edge is important.

"But it's not just about certain players, it's a team effort. We all need to step up now. However, I won't be too critical. Like I say they lads have been brilliant this season, they'd gone on a great run for four months and now we're not getting the breaks again, but I believe they can turn the tide."
