Bellshill Athletic FC vs Greenock Juniors FC

GREENOCK head to Rockburn Park tomorrow for a clash with second placed Bellshill Athletic.

For much of the season the North Lanarkshire side looked like runaway winners of the league, however, a post-Christmas dip in form brought them back to the pack.

But in recent weeks they seem to have recovered their mojo and are currently on a three-match win streak.

While Greenock's own promotion hopes have subsided, they can still have a significant say in the outcome of the league.

In addition to Bellshill, the run-in includes games against Lanark, Threave and Lesmahagow, all of whom are in the mix.

Greenock’s squad will certainly be motivated to finish the campaign strongly and, in particular, find the consistency in terms of quality of performance that has been a bugbear throughout the season.

The group have shown on any number of occasions that they can match any team in the league. The key is playing to their own strengths and concentrating for the full duration of the game.

They will need to show these qualities to achieve a good result tomorrow.

There has been some movement in the squad in the last ten days or so. Central defender Ben Lauchlan has joined Irvine Meadow on a permanent deal. Winger Jack Graham has signed for the club after impressing in training and in a recent bounce match. Jamie Black will miss tomorrow's game as he serves out his suspension. Ciaran Boyd has suffered a setback in his recovery. Jamie Cunningham is unavailable on Saturday.

An upbeat Greenock manager Gary Fleming said: “Since our defeat to Lanark a couple of weeks ago we have been working hard on the training ground and in a bounce match to improve on certain scenarios and game situations that have cost us some vital points and wins over the past few weeks.

"The response has been fantastic. The players are pulling together, showing up in numbers for training and you can see a real determination to get back to winning ways.

"We couldn’t ask for a better challenge than going to Bellshill, imposing our game and coming away with three points."

"We're looking for players to express themselves on the ball, while showing the composure to retain it and eliminate the tendency to give away cheap goals.

"Team selection will be extremely tough this weekend as there have been many positive performances across the squad.

"Finally I would like wish Ben Lauchlan all the best with his new club Irvine Meadow.”
