DETERMINED Morton forward Michael Garrity believes the Ton have what it takes to down Falkirk this weekend...and has faith that the goals will come for Dougie Imrie’s side.

Morton have only registered a single goal so far this campaign, a penalty which Owen Moffat converted against Livingston last Saturday, but had chances to score in their goalless draws against Patrick Thistle and Hamilton.

While Garrity has started all three of the Ton’s opening league fixtures, he is yet to get on the scoresheet.

However, the talented 22-year-old says the opportunities to score have been there and it’s just a matter of putting the ball in the back of the net.

He told the Tele: “The first game was Patrick Thistle away, and when we got the draw, I felt that any point was a good point away from home.

“Against Hamilton in the second game at home, I probably felt we were the better team. We created a lot of chances and maybe if I had helped put the ball in the back of the net we’d have won.

“But we’re getting the chances, that’s the point. We just hope to build on it this Saturday.

“We knew last weekend we’d maybe have to play a bit more of a counterattacking game and when there’s space in behind, I’m going to see it and run. In the end it was another good point away from home.

“I’d like to have got a few goals but I’m sure they’ll come.

“I’d be more concerned if the chances weren’t coming my way.”

Garrity says he is pleased to be getting chances to start from manager Dougie Imrie and has enjoyed playing alongside new arrival Jay Emmanuel-Thomas up top.

He added: “On a personal note it’s good as long as the team is playing well and I’m contributing, helping the team out offensively and doing the important work defensively.

“I think every striker will tell you once the first goes in the rest will follow. Striker is kind of a new position for me as well. I think when the first hits, a few more will follow.

“The gaffer’s always great with me. Playing with JET gives me a bit more of a free role in terms of being able to play off him.

“JET will be the main focal point and I’m more able to move around him and find my own space.

“On Saturday we felt we had to be more compact defensively.

“The first two games we played with the three in the middle and the two up front, and it took us a wee bit of time to adapt against Livingston.

“In the first half they did have a lot of the ball, but I don’t think they really troubled us defensively. It was more towards the second half when the game had opened up.

“There’s positives and negatives to every game, and I feel like the positive from the first half on Saturday was that we looked strong defensively. “

Looking ahead to this weekend, Garrity says the Ton will go into their clash with Falkirk with the goal of claiming all three points.

He said: “We’ll just go in with the mentality that we want to win every home game. The gaffer has made that clear.

“I’ll just keep doing my thing, and I know that my ability will come through.

“We’re passing the ball a bit now, and we’re looking to bring the wingers and the strikers into play a bit more often instead of just going long, which is exciting for myself and hopefully the fans.”
