Michael O'Halloran on Morton trip to old club St Johnstone

The winger enjoyed three spells with the Perth side, winning the Scottish Cup twice and lifting the League Cup in 2021.

He received a warm welcome on his last appearance at McDiarmid Park, but insists all of that will be forgotten as he looks to help the Ton kick-start their season.

Back-to-back defeats have already seen Ian Murray’s men crash out of the Premier Sports Cup, leaving an air of despondency around Cappielow.

“St Johnstone are riding the crest of a wave at the minute,” O’Halloran said.

“They were the top team in the division, and they got promoted last year, so we know how difficult it’s going to be.

“But it’s such a good chance for our boys to go and put in a performance that puts to bed the two previous performances.

“That’s the beauty of football — the games come thick and fast, and we can only try to look ahead and be positive.

“Obviously, it’s a club that’s close to my heart — I loved my time there. I always look out for their scores and it’s nice going back.

“But I’m a Morton player and I want to go and give my best for the club that I’m at now. Hopefully we can get a performance there.”

O’Halloran is hoping to get more valuable minutes under his belt ahead of the start of the Championship season.

A series of injuries limited his involvement last season, but now feeling fit and ready to go, the experienced winger is eager to build momentum.

“Tuesday was my first time starting this season,” O’Halloran added.

“I was rusty. It’s just that wee bit of match sharpness — not that I’m not fit.

“Nothing beats that match sharpness, and that obviously only comes through playing games.

“I played a bit longer than expected, but that’s not a problem for me.

“Hopefully I can kick on and play a bit against St Johnstone, and progress to the next match.”
