IT'S top versus bottom tomorrow as Greenock Wanderers entertain old rivals Cambuslang in another vital fixture in the Scottish Hydro-Electric National League Second Division at Fort Matilda.

For the locals it is an early opportunity to put last weekend's result behind them and all eyes will be on the side to see how they respond after their first taste of defeat.

Cambuslang, although still propping up the division, have improved since the earlier meeting at Coats Park in September when Wanderers scored 60 points in a nine-try romp.

The visitors have recorded three wins themselves since then, and are well within range of the other bottom clubs as they fight to get out of the relegation zone.

With two highly motivated teams going at it, an entertaining contest is anticipated.

Wanderers remain at the top of the league and their excellent run of victories has ensured that they have some breathing space between themselves and last weekend's victors Lasswade.

The hosts, though, will want to avoid any slip-ups as the Christmas break approaches and tomorrow's fixture is the first of two home games in a row against Glasgow based opposition. Third placed Glasgow Academicals come calling next Saturday on league business, although that top of the table clash is far from the thoughts of the Wanderers management team at present.

President Dougie Sloan said: "Of course we are disappointed to lose our unbeaten record but the players and coaches have done a fine job and have got the club into a very strong position.

"Last week's game could have gone either way but it is over now and all we are focusing on is tomorrow's game with Cambuslang. Last week, next week and the rest of the season, for that matter, are irrelevant. All the playing staff know that the most important game is the next one, and that is tomorrow's fixture." Despite losing at Bonnyrigg, Wanderers secured the lose bonus point so, in reality, Lasswade only made up three points and still remain 14 adrift of the league leaders.

Coach Bob Adams has been matter of fact about the defeat and has drawn a line under it already. He said: "For the first time this season our set piece and discipline was found wanting and we have talked about it this week and have learned from the experience.

"We've had the post mortem and dusted ourselves down and we are ready now to get back into action.

"We are eager to put on a good performance in front of our home support and get back to winning ways immediately." Motivation is clearly not lacking in the Wanderers camp and, with only eight games remaining in the league, a championship title is well within their grasp.

Vice-captain Matt Gray, who suffered a late yellow card last weekend, will be fired up for this one and he will look to get the locals on the front foot straight from the start. Gray has been outstanding this season and his contribution has been a major factor in the Wanderers success story so far.

Behind the scrum, coaches Dave McVey and Adams have tinkered with their selection and have reinstated the centre partnership of Kieran Smith and Leigh Tyley.

Sean Connolly is switched to full back and skipper David Watson is back on the right wing.

Hard running Jason Smith gets recalled and he starts on the left wing.

He will relish the opportunity of getting the ball in hand and showing the selectors what he is capable of.

Wanderers look odds-on favourites for this game and Cambuslang will not look forward to visiting the Fort with the locals still smarting from last weekend's result.
