WEARY Wanderers had far to travel for the meeting with Caithness, but failed to go the extra distance and secure a win.
The Thurso side are a different entity at Millbank to the team Wanderers swept to a 44-7 victory against in September, and this time it was the Greenock men who suffered from a case of bus-lag.
Weather conditions were good for the early 1pm kick-off, with light rain and a heavy pitch.
The match started at s brisk pace with the Wanderers tactics being to engage the far heavier Caithness pack for the briefest of encounters and get the ball out to the swift Greenock back division.
However, the Caithness coaches had done their homework and had dictated that the play should be kept tight, only releasing their backs when Wanderers were committed to rucks and mauls.
